Propaganda and Fake News on War and Peace Journalism:
International Lecture organized by Department of Media and Communication (SSH) in collaboration with Association of Media and Communication Academic Professionals (AMCAP).
Keeping in view the contemporary conflict between India and Pakistan, consequently there is a hysteric display of jingoism on mass media of both countries. The School of Media & Communication Studies (SMCS) University of Management and Technology organized an International Lecture on “Propaganda and Fake News in War & Peace Journalism' on March 2, 2019. The Guest speaker Prof. Rune Ottesen expressed that we must focus on peace journalism, journalistic safety and stick to the ethics of journalism. The world cannot afford war or war reporting, widely believed to be based on propaganda reporting. War reporting backed by propaganda always lead to mass destruction and hatred, whereas peace journalism lead to wider stability and love. The Director General UMT Abid HK Sherwani, Chairman Special Education Prof. Abdul Hameed, Associate Professor ICS, PU Dr. Bushra Rehman, Assistant Professor ICS, PU Dr. Abida Ijaz, Assistant Professor SMCS, UMT faculty of SMCS, journalists and a large number of students participated in the event.
Dr. Bushra, while congratulation Prof. Dr. Mughees Uddin Sheikh on organizing such a fruitful seminar, said that he is the founder of multiple programs of M. Phil and PhD in various universities. The UMT was blessed to have him. DG UMT Abid Sherwani, Dr. Abida and other noted figures also spoke on this occasion.
